Volatile Prototypes

fib is a cloth and sheet simulator whose goal is to aid the conceptual realization of tensile structures and support experimentation with fabric structures in general.

In fib, form creation is based on the manipulation of a surface in 3-dimensional space, which conforms to geometrical constraints of real world cloth or sheet materials.

The flexible surface is modeled as a 2-D point-spring frame. Points can be manipulated and fixed to any position. The model reacts to interaction by adapting to loads applied by the user, in order to maintain its integrity. The physics solver is based on an implementation of the Verlet Integration Method and a Dynamic Relaxation-based constraint solver.
